Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5, calling it the most agentic Sonnet model yet, with performance approaching Opus 4.8 on reasoning, tool use, and coding tasks at a lower price. It is the default model for Free and Pro users and is available in Claude Code, Cowork, and the API at introductory pricing of $2/$10 per million input/output tokens through August 31.

Anthropic releases Claude Science for automating research

Anthropic launched Claude Science, a research environment consolidating scientific databases, literature review, and 3D protein structure visualization for scientists and pharmaceutical researchers. The beta is open to Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, and is aimed at expanding Anthropic's enterprise and pharma business ahead of a planned IPO.
