Google I/O 2026: Gemini Spark, Android 17, and the biggest AI push yet
Google's annual developer keynote delivered a wave of AI-first announcements, with Gemini front and center across every product line.
- Gemini Spark — a personal AI agent for complex planning tasks (weddings, travel, projects), integrated into Gmail, Google Workspace, Android, and iOS. Rolling out in beta to AI Ultra subscribers in the US next week.
- Gemini 3.5 Flash — unveiled at keynote. Focused on agentic coding, long-horizon tasks, and real-world workflows at roughly one-third the cost of comparable frontier models.
- Gemini Omni — multimodal video creation tool taking text, photos, video, audio, and more as inputs.
- Android 17 — Gemini now runs natively in the OS with cross-app automation; new features include Create My Widget, Rambler in Gboard, and Pause Point.
- Android Halo — ambient agent-status overlay that shows users what their AI agents are doing at any time.
- Ask YouTube — AI chatbot that finds the right video by understanding intent, not just keywords.
- Samsung Android XR glasses — hardware shown off, shipping this fall.
